Biography

Brock Husby, Ph.D. is a Lean consultant, speaker, and researcher and was an Associate Vice President at Baylor Scott & White Health, where he was an integral part of the deployment of a holistic Lean approach, including system-wide training, projects (A3, VSM, Lean Layout, and Kaizen), Hoshin Planning, foundational and advanced tools, and an extensive deployment and maturation of Lean management systems (leader standard work, gemba walks, and huddle boards).

Brock was a Process Assurance & Corrective Actions Engineer for the Space Shuttle Program at the Kennedy Space Center, a management consultant for the automotive service parts industry, and a Technical Assistant at Car and Driver Magazine.  

Brock holds a BS.E., MS.E., and Ph.D. in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Brock was one of first three AHRQ grant-funded Industrial Engineers at Denver Health & Hospital System, who trained and mentored their initial class of “Lean black-belts”, helped create the foundational structure for their Lean program, and facilitated the initial rapid improvement (RIE/Kaizen) events.  

The results of these initial efforts were demonstrated operational expense savings of USD$ 124,000,000 (as of 2013), as well as Denver Health becoming the first healthcare delivery organization to win the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence (2011).

Brock is also the founder & manager of the LinkedIn “Lean & Toyota Production System Healthcare Professionals” group with over 3,300 screened and approved members, which is a group created to foster collaboration, innovation, and discussion on issues and opportunities in this Lean healthcare.
